Category: MAP Network & Learn

The Metro Detroit Planners Group is hosting this BBB event!

Detroit’s Old Redford neighborhood on Detroit’s Northwest Side is home to many culturally relevant institutions including Artist Village, Old Redford Theater, and The Masonic Temple. They are anchored by the thriving “Old Redford Downtown” commercial district, and are surrounded by a stable neighborhood. The Old Redford Theater is a regional draw, operating for over 95 years providing live entertainment, movies, and serving as a venue for weddings, meetings and events. The Java House and Artist Village emerged on the scene a decade ago as a community center and neighborhood hub, hosting events like neighborhood meetings, summer art camps, and studio space for artists.

The City of Detroit’s Strategic Neighborhood Strategy was established in late 2017 as a framework plan, in collaboration with community residents, and which culminated in a number of projects including new streetscapes, the Rogell Nature Park, the Old Redford “Link’, and “Design Center in a Box”. The story of the neighborhood’s resurgence exemplifies the gritty perseverance of existing and new businesses, and the City’s commitment to uplift this historic neighborhood. More details here.  To learn about the Metro Detroit Planners, click here
